Our determination of what truth is should not be confused with opinions. Relying on intellect and senses alone always falls short if our dependence on truth lies with what we are sold by media, the mantras of the crowd we hang with, or hold to sentiments shared with our work peers. Remaining popular with our friends or adopting beliefs to keep peace at home is the world’s ways and the ruler of this world has no better insurance policy to keep us from truth than the reminders we seek from others that we are OK. We know things and we are smart.
That may be so, but we are not OK. The dissentions among our own countrymen are evidence enough there are huge differences in how we seek and identify what is right and what is truth. Reliance and hope on politicians, corporate leaders and the brain trusts of this world will continue to result in futility of any real reconciliation or agreements on what is truth or what is right for us. So, what is God doing about all of this? 1 Corinthians 15:25-26 states , “For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.”
Paul David Tripp, in New Morning Mercies, reminds us this verse tells us: 1) He is reigning, our world is not out of control and the bad guys are not going to win. 2) God is putting the enemies of His redemptive purpose under His feet and will crush them until our last enemy, death, is defeated. When we take seriously what the Bible has to say about the world in which we live and when we take seriously the inconvenient truth Jesus says about our human condition there is real hope and real joy in our circumstances, regardless of how they seem.
